Tip #21: Poster In Photo Type
By: Donna ChapmanTo begin open the photo which you would like to create your type mask over. Since I am planning a class on belly dance, this is the photo I chose. Next hold down the alt while double clicking on the thumbnail picture of the background layer. This will make your background layer so that you can edit it. Next make a duplicate layer (control+J) and paint your background layer which now says layer 0 in black.
Next Click on the text tool and start typing vertically or horizontally as desired to match your picture. I have used an Impact type and played with the size until it fit. Don’t worry too much about placement at this time.
Drag the text layer under the photo layer.
Now here is the difficult part (not really). Place the mouse on the line between the photo layer and the text layer and hold down the ALT key. You will get a funky looking lock. Click on this. If you have done it correctly you will see a down arrow attached to the thumbnail of the photo layer.
Adjust your text so that it shows well with the photo.
Add a couple of layers of Text for the rest of your poster and you are done.
